Birdline (UK) Ltd rescues and rehomes unwanted, unwell and neglected parrots. With many many birds needing new homes, myself and other volunteers work tirelessly to help these birds by raising awareness, educating people and raising money to help pay for vet bills for sick parrots.
I personally spend a lot of my time calling and visiting applicants and carrying out Home Checks throughout Devon and sometimes beyond. I also seek and manage Safe Houses in Devon – a Safe House is a safe place where a bird can be placed after being rescued and while a suitable forever home is found for it.
I have myself fostered 3 parrots and have developed a real passion for the charity.
I am organising my very first ‘pop up’ event at St John’s
Community Centre, Barnstaple (next to Rose Lane Tesco) on the 27th
May 2017 between 10.30am and 4pm
The primary goal of the event is to educate people in caring for parrots. Looking after a parrot is very rewarding but as they live for so long, it is inevitable that a parrot will need to be rehomed at some point during its life. Educating people in the care for any animal will hopefully break the cycle of impulse buying and unwanted pets in the future.
There will be volunteers from Birdline (UK) present to offer advice and guidance on every aspect of caring for our feathered friends. Soft refreshments (and cakes) will be available and there are activities for children to take part in. Entry is free and there is loads of free parking. There will be parrot related stalls selling vitamins, food, toys and perches.
Now for the fun bit........ we are bringing around 21 of our feathered friends with us!!!! Our birds are taken to shows (which they absolutely love) and are used to being handled by unknown humans. For a donation, anyone over 5 years of age (due to insurance restrictions) can hold a parrot and of course be told the stories of the individual birds. How exciting!
