On Sunday, two of our Braunton colleagues, Suzanne Lucas and Annie Urry-Clark, laced up their walking boots and took on an eleven mile coastal challenge, joined by Suzanne’s daughter Rebecca.

Their uplifting route wove through Croyde, Saunton, Putsborough and Georgeham before a celebratory meal at The Thatch in Croyde. They even paused for a photo beside one of our recent Fine & Country sales, a reminder of the beautiful homes and lifestyle that make North Devon so special.

The route at a glance

  • Start Croyde village and bay
  • Along Saunton with its sweeping sands and dunes
  • Across to Putsborough for wide sea views and a peaceful stretch of beach
  • Through Georgeham, a charming village with independent pubs and a welcoming community
  • Finish The Thatch, a well known Croyde favourite for hearty food and friendly service

A snapshot of Braunton and the surrounding coast

Braunton Burrows
Just outside the village, Braunton Burrows forms one of the largest sand dune systems in the UK and sits at the heart of the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is rich in wildlife, popular with walkers and dog owners, and offers far‑reaching views towards the estuary.

Saunton Sands
A vast, gently shelving beach that is perfect for family days, long strolls and surfing. The dunes behind Saunton provide shelter on breezier days and make this area a firm favourite with locals.

Croyde
Known for its surf and lively village atmosphere, Croyde has independent shops, cafés and places to eat. The coastal footpaths around Baggy Point provide dramatic scenery and a rewarding circular walk.

Putsborough
Tucked at the southern end of Woolacombe Bay, Putsborough is a beautiful, quieter stretch of sand, ideal for sunrise walks and sea‑air resets.

Georgeham
A pretty village with a strong community feel, historic church and welcoming pubs. It is a lovely place to pause on a longer route and soak up North Devon life.
