Ed from our Taunton office battle Three Mountains for Homelessness

A group of more than 25 estate agents and friends from and other Fine & Country including Local Taunton Director, Edward Thorne will tackle an intensive 24-hour hiking adventure: the National Three Peaks Challenge, on Saturday 22nd June.

At face-value, this challenge seems easy: 24 hours to walk 23 miles. The difficulty, however, is that the route takes participants to an exhausting 3,064 m (10,052 ft.) of ascent across Scotland, England and Wales, respectively: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The teams must also drive between the countries while the clock still ticks.

The Fine & Country Foundation has seven teams who will start together at the base of Ben Nevis at 6am on Saturday 22nd June. Once the claxon sounds, the teams will begin their climb up the tallest mountain in the UK, reaching 1,345 m (4,413 ft.). This first mountain is estimated to take six hours. By the time the teams drive to Scafell Pike they will have already eaten into half of their time.

Scafell Pike is 978 m (3,209 ft.) and is located in England’s iconic Lake District National Park, Cumbria. The fastest trekkers will reach the summit and return to their cars after another four hours of hiking. By this time, it will be 9pm and the teams will drive through the night to reach their final ascent: Mount Snowdon, located in Wales’ Snowdonia National Park.

Exhausted and aching, the teams will reach the summit of Snowdon in time for the sunrise and attempt to reach the finish line in the carpark before 6am on Sunday 23rd June.

This epic challenge will be the largest walking expedition The Fine & Country Foundation has undertaken to raise money for homelessness. Each trekker aims to raise a minimum of £200 for vital homeless projects in the UK and overseas.

Team members come from all corners of England to unite against this important cause.

Edward says: “I love a challenge and this will be one of the biggest. More importantly, we see homelessness around us every day and in an industry that focuses on home rental and ownership, I’m pleased to have the opportunity to make a difference to those in need.”

The national aspect of the challenge will ensure that donations reach every corner of the UK to help the most vulnerable individuals break the cycle of homelessness.
